Senior user
The senior user represents the user community and is responsible for capturing user requirements and specifying benefits in line with the business case.
Responsibilities
Senior users are responsible for the following:
- Gaining and maintaining user buy-in for the project
- Monitoring products to ensure they meet requirements and can be used as expected
- Demonstrating to the business that the forecasted benefits are on track
- Managing changes to requirements and benefits from users and the business
- Ensuring successful handover of products into the business
The senior user must secure an ongoing commitment from the user community, especially for long-term activities like benefit realization after the project ends.
The project manager depends on the senior user to ensure that the project meets the user’s requirements and delivers the expected benefits. The senior user provides essential input on user needs, helps manage stakeholder expectations, and ensures that the project aligns with the business case.
Number of senior users
While multiple representatives may be needed, keeping the number to a minimum helps maintain the efficiency of the project board.
