Project support
In large projects, a few people would help the project manager in the administration of the project. These people would have the role of project support. Small projects usually don’t have such a role and their project managers would play the role of project support as well.
Although the project manager generally retains responsibility for project support, delegating the admin tasks can enhance operational efficiency and allow the project manager to focus on strategic leadership. By assigning specific support functions to qualified team members, projects benefit from streamlined processes and more effective oversight of administrative elements.
Responsibilities
Project support responsibilities that may be delegated include:
- Administrative services
- Advice and guidance on project management tools or configuration management
- Specialist functions like planning or risk management.
- Administering configuration management procedures of the issue management approach.
Developing future project managers
A PRINCE2 project support role is an excellent introduction to project management because it provides hands-on experience in supporting project activities, learning key project management processes, and understanding the roles of different project stakeholders. It offers valuable insights into the day-to-day operations of a project, helping individuals develop a foundational understanding of project management principles, tools, and techniques, which are essential for progressing to a project manager role.
